The State of the Breed

The Dobermann was created to be a protector, a companion, and a working machine. In recent years, we've seen a split in the breed between "show lines" that prioritize conformation often at the expense of drive, and "working lines" that can sometimes be too sharp for the average dedicated owner.

At Von Ligerhaus, our 2024 breeding program is laser-focused on bridging this gap. We believe the total Dobermann must possess:

1. Nerves of Steel: Unshakable confidence in new environments.
2. Clear Head: The ability to distinguish between a threat and a non-threat.
3. Physical Soundness: Longevity and health to work until old age.

Our Selection Process

We are introducing new bloodlines this year that bring intense prey drive balanced with high biddability. This means our puppies will be easier to train but will have the engine to perform in IPG, PSA, or active family protection roles.

"Form follows function" is not just a slogan; it is the rule. We are selecting for deep chests, strong rears, and dark eyes, but never at the expense of the dog's ability to work.
