Transparency in breeding. Every test, every result, documented.
At Von Ligerhaus, we believe in complete transparency about the health of our dogs. Every breeding prospect undergoes rigorous health testing before being considered for our program. We don't breed for profit – we breed for the betterment of the European Dobermann.
Dobermanns face serious hereditary health challenges, particularly DCM (Dilated Cardiomyopathy) which affects over 50% of the breed. Through careful screening, genetic testing, and selective breeding, we work to produce healthier dogs with improved longevity.
Annual echocardiograms and 24-hour Holter monitoring. DCM is the #1 killer of Dobermanns - we test every breeding dog.
DNA testing for this clotting disorder. All our dogs are Clear or tested to ensure no affected puppies.
OFA or PennHIP evaluation at 24+ months. We only breed dogs with Good or Excellent ratings.
Full thyroid evaluation including T4, Free T4, and antibodies. Hypothyroidism is common in the breed.
Annual eye examination by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist.
Comprehensive genetic testing for 200+ conditions including DINGS, Narcolepsy, and Color Dilution Alopecia.
We're happy to discuss our testing protocols, share documentation, or answer any questions about the health of our breeding program.
